Bhramari Pranayama

In Sanskrit Bhramara means bee. Sound of bee is produced while doing this Pranayama. Therefore this pranayama is called Bhramari Pranayama.

Procedure:

Firmly sit in Padmasana or Swastikasana or any other comfirtable meditative posture. Inhale forcibly through both the nostrils making the sound of bee. After inhalation, do exhalation (Rechaka) forcibly making the sound of bee.

This should be done until entire body is bathed with perspiration. Then do deep Puraka by both the nostrils. After Puraka, do Kumbhaka with Jalandhara Bandha and Mulabandha. It is better to maintain the ratio of 1:4:2

Another version of Bhramari Pranayama: Do Puraka with sound of male bee. Then do Kumbhaka with Jalandhara Bandha and Mula bandha. Kumbhaka should be of the ratio 1:4:2. After Kumbhaka release Jalandhara Bandha. Slowly do the Rechaka with the sound of female bee.

Benefits of Bhramari Pranayama:

This Pranayama should be done in morning, evening and night times. Body temperature increases by the practice of Bhramari Pranayama. Body temperature decreases after sweating. Samadhi is attained by the regular practice of Bhramari Pranayama. Immence bliss is experienced by the practice of Bhramari. Sleeplessness is cured by this pranayama. Mind becomes steady by the practice of this pranayama. This Pranayama is very beneficial for meditation. It is useful in conditions of mental agitation, mental tension, high blood pressure, heart disease etc.
